Silviculture can be defined as the art and science of growing trees. Our forest management choices are made after a detailed site assessment to determine the tree species present, their health and vigour, and a judgement as to what species are best suited to the growing conditions. We call this assessment a prescription. During this on-the-ground survey work, we are also checking for the presence of sensitive sites, stick nests, streams and ponds, and species at risk.

Silviculture decisions are made with our broad forest management goals in mind and consistent with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's silviculture guide.
